Are the signs of economic recovery finally showing? On March 5, 2013, we watched the stock market, and most specifically the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a record-high since 2007… the first time since prior to the economic crash in 2008.
I’m no financial wizard here, but are we finally beginning to see a recovery in our economic climate, or is this simply a temporary mask, shielding us from the bigger problems at hand? Over the last few weeks we’ve heard about Congress “attempting” to agree on spending cuts to decrease the budget and curb wasteful government spending. Is the climbing stock market a result of cuts and consumer confidence returning, or is it simply a burst, prior to another impending crash. I guess only time will tell.
But, we do have things to be positive about. America is getting back to work, as we have watched unemployment rates continue to strengthen during the last few years. We are still dealing with a variety of issues from foreign affairs, to gun control and obviously, one of the biggest clouds hanging over our head….national health care reform.
It’s hard to see if we are gaining traction, or simply treading water waiting for the next wave to crash into us. But, in our industry, we are seeing advertisers become aggressive again, increasing budgets and exploring new media options. Online marketing continues to grow, develop and evolve each and every day. The online climate for business owners is ever-changing and requires savvy eyes and gutsy moves to stay current. “Content is king” in this online marketplace, and advertisers are becoming more aggressive in telling their story, through words, video and even pictures with the recent domination of Pinterest.
Long story short, we as American’s continue to evolve our lifestyles each and every day to fit into this “new America” that we are settling into. Business owners are doing the same things in finding innovative ways to compete in this same “new America.” Is there one perfect answer? One perfect solution? I think it’s still too early to tell. As we continue to watch trending reports on consumer spending, online habits and more, we are pointed to a unique opportunity to revert back to just a few short years ago, and create market dominance and relevance.
Clearly, it’s been a long strange trip…with what I am certain are plenty more bumps in the road along the way.
